Digestion Aid Turmeric Ginger Shot
If you follow me on social media, you know that about 2 weeks ago I became so sick at my stomach. I couldn’t eat much, and the end self diagnoses of myself was potentially a stomach ulcer. I felt full all the time, had a burning sensation in my stomach that was extremely sharp, had a fever, nausea, reflux, all the works. After eliminating alcohol, coffee or anything inflammatory for one week, I felt 1000x better. This is why I say food is medicine. Similar to my accident, I knew my body needed to heal, so I only consumed things that I knew would fuel that. And it helped tremendously. I’m not saying that those were the only factors (I also got plenty of rest and did get a steroid shot, too), but food definitely helped to heal whatever I had a bit faster, I do know that to be true.
Typically, when we take antacids, we are lowering the acid in the stomach. Things such as sugar, alcohol, spicy foods, or high acidic fruits/foods can cause acid from our stomach to come up to the esophagus, also known as acid reflux. Our diet greatly influences reflux, and the pH balance of our stomachs needs to stay within a certain range: it has to be higher than the rest or our GI system in order to break our foods down to be absorbed later in the small intestine. It’s all a part of the process of digestion. If we take antacids constantly to lower the acid levels in our stomach, we eventually bear the consequences of that by not being able to break down our food enough in our stomachs, leading to further issues down the line such as dysbiosis, nutrient malabsorption, or more.
Acid levels can become too high though, leading to reflux (GERD) or even ulcers. So, with all of this going on, I wanted to neutralize any stomach acids naturally without taking antacids. Sodium bicarbonate, which is baking soda, can help to do this and is one the main ingredients in antacids and can help lower stomach acids levels. In combination with the ginger, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, lemon, and honey, this juice is the exact sweet little remedy that got me through this week. It helped me so much (and was such a hit with my friends) that I wanted to share it with you, too. ✨
So, here is my Digestion Aid Turmeric Ginger Shot. This is not meant to cure ulcers, GERD, or any sort of reflux, but I do believe that the compounds in this can be super beneficial and a natural aid that can help with many digestive issues.
