Maca Almond Butter Smoothie

I believe that a smoothie in the morning doesn’t just need to be fruit! An optimal balance of proteins, fiber, healthy fats, and even vegetables will help to balance out your blood sugar and prevent a sugar crash (even the fruit from sugar!), keep you fuller longer, supply you with nutrients that give you energy, and help to diversify your gut microbiome! This smoothie has fats from the almonds and almond milk, greens from the spinach, fiber from the flax seed, and something to you might not have tried before to help diversity your microbiome and give you alllll the nutritional benefits.

You can make this is as a smoothie to drink alone, or you can make into a bowl like I love to do (I’m a crunchy texture, kind of girl).

Maca is something that I just recently started using regularly after partnering with The Reserve superfoods. Maca is a plant that originates in the Peruvian Central Andes, with a variety of benefits, such as increased sexual function and improve memory.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen banana slices

  • 2 tablespoons raw almond butter

  • 1/2 fresh avocado

  • Small handful fresh spinach

  • 1 tablespoon fresh flax seed

  • 3 teaspoons maca powder

  • 1 cup water or almond milk

  • Almonds, walnuts, cacao nibs, cinnamon, gluten-free granola, and almond butter for topping (or whatever your beautiful heart desires)

Recipe:

  • Place all ingredients into a high powered blender for 4-5 minutes, increasing intensity as you blend.

  • Blend until smooth, pour, and top with toppings.

  • Enjoy this smoothie (bowl) knowing you are fueling your body to be your best self:)
