Archeology 101 and How to Reconnect Back to the Earth
“Given enough observation, we can know things - and those things MATTER. The things that people were doing in the past are relevant to today because they had ways of doing things that WE can learn from. We are constantly rediscovering the past”
“When we are faced with studying something that is not you, it’s like a mirror - and you’re saying, ‘Well this is how these people are, what does that say about my culture and who I am?’. It hits me in the face that I need to study who I am.”
Meet Julie Morrow, PhD, yoga-teacher, optimist, archeologist and life-long learner. In this episode, Julie discusses how she carved her way through a man-dominated field to be one of the best in the business, and how her upbringing and general interests brought her to study the earth.
She discusses what the basics of archeology are, and what a “typical” day for her in the field looks like. We discuss how archeological and cultural practices should be carried over into today’s world, what we can learn from them, and how as a society we've strayed from nature - and how we can get back to some of these practices.
She also talks about how trying many different things in life is good for you and figuring out what you want to do.
Her story is truly fascinating and inspiring, and gives the reminder that things can be so simple, and that the path in our life will always take us places we never thought we would go. Of course, we also discuss nature, yoga, and learning to discover ourselves. This conversation reminds me to work hard; and that the more time I spend in nature (and doing yoga), the more connected I will be to myself.
